The AFINET Project participated on AGROGLOBAL

The AGROGLOBAL fair includes several side events such as professional and educational stands, seminars, exhibitions, practical demonstrations of equipment and practices etc. The AFINET project was invited to be presented in this event, in a seminar entitled: ‘Global forest’, organized by CELPA and UNAC.

Joana Amaral Paulo, the Portuguese Innovation Broker and EURAF delegate, made a presentation entitled “Research and knowledge transfer for the promotion of sustainable agroforestry management models”. The presentation started by a revision of the Agroforestry definition established by the European Agroforestry Federation (EURAF) and the revision of several features and benefits of agroforestry systems as an alternative and sustainable management model for modern agriculture. Among others, the comparison of the ecosystem services originated by forest, agroforest and agriculture areas were one of the topics addressed.

The presentation also included a reference to the potential of alley cropping systems for wood, biomass or pulp production. The full presentation (in Portuguese) is available here.
